Our pick of the best Garden Sprayers

There is a supple pleasure in gardening and landscaping. It brings us back to nature and in touch with a planet that provides us with crucial nutrients, nourishment and hands-on control of your food supply; plus the ability to reshape your property in the way you wish to view it.

My wife and I look at gardening with these aspects ourselves and we both take this hobby very seriously even though we enjoy it.

With this, we strongly believe that among the most important tools we should have on hand within our shed or garage (maybe a barn for some of you), is a high-quality garden sprayer.

With garden sprayers, we have tried and used a variety and found ourselves changing up with these brands due to the arrival of our two dogs, which changed the game altogether, as you can understand.

As for a my spouse and I are concerned, the following items are the most crucial selection factors when deciding on the best brands:

*Safety: For humans of any age, along with outdoor pets and farm animals.

*Plants: What plant item will you be mostly using the sprayer for (You may need more than one, as we found out over the years)?

*Function: Do you need a power sprayer for a wide area of plantation or just to tend to a flower bed next to your home?

With these factors in mind, we shall examine what we feel are the top 10 best garden sprayers on the market in 2021 for you to consider when researching sprayers.

The following rankings count down from #10 to #1 as to how my wife and I consider our tasks and priorities for garden and lawn care overall:

Field King Backpack Sprayer

Field King Backpack Sprayer

Well, it is a most certainly big guy for big jobs; and I utilized the Field King for a few years on my front and back yards until the arrival of our dogs in '08; along with the ensuing expansion of our vegetable and flower beds in kind.

PROS

  • It has a high-pressure sprayer, and the tank holds up to 4 gallons of liquid. I only have a 1/4 acre of lawn to tend to and the Field King helped make this a fairly quick and easy task of it.
  • Super easy to use; even though you see them on hand with professional landscaping companies, so you do look a bit industrial putting this on at first.
  • There are no tools are required to change the seals and there is no leakage from the tank pack either. This is a marvelous lawn treatment sprayer. Knocked out 1/4 acre in just 3 hours on my first use

CONS

  • The only complaint about this product was its size over time, and my spouse is diminutive in size herself and could not readily strap this item on nor lug it around that much when she tried. So I was the primary user over time as a result.
  • Could've used more padding on the shoulder straps during long periods of use.

Könnig Garden Pressure Sprayer

Konnig Garden Pressure Sprayer

The Könnig became quite handy as we began to focus on remodeling our vegetable gardens and then later on with the expansion/remodeling of our flowers and plants while taking away real-estate from the lawn itself in kind.

It still tackled some of our spotty lawn issues and we scaled the model down to just 1-gallon size for our needs.

PROS

  • The pump was of accurate measurements and easy to gauge and mete out liquids as you need them without over treating an area.
  • Very mobile but still powerful in pressure.
  • You only needed 1 shoulder strap for this and my wife could even use it on occasion by herself, but then we began to expand our back porch and inserted walkways, and we looked into other products for these projects.

CONS

  • Some of the fittings if not carefully tightened and checked could be leaky sometimes.
  • The nozzle could be difficult to clear when it clogged.

Solo 430-2G Garden Sprayer

Solo 430-2G Garden Sprayer

We really got our bang for the buck with the Solo as our focus become more pronounced with our garden and flower beds over time. This sprayer is even smaller than the Field King and Könnig models and convenient for use in tighter spaces we felt.

PROS

  • Very handy with special area projects and smaller items; and as mentioned earlier, it was nice on the pocketbook when we bought it.
  • Manual pump but the handle is large to prevent from hand-fatigue.
  • The tray that is included that holds various pumps.

CONS

  • Would lose air pressure upon frequent use, which required ample pumping to maintain sometimes.
  • Had to replace the motor but customer service was epic in sending this out; even though it was not the original, it worked just fine.

BRUFER 72022 Sprayer

BRUFER 72022 Sprayer

This was similar in size to the Solo but had the extra .1 gallon size of (1.1 gallons) we were looking for in terms of our new flower and bush projects around the edges of the property that we were focused on in the spring and summer of 2015.

We planted 14 plants while maintaining our garden beds and the Brufer did the job nicely for those initial projects.

PROS

  • Very easy to fill and use.
  • Truly effective and efficient sprayer for specific plants and garden areas.
  • The only sprayer we used on our raspberry and blueberry bushes and was fantastic.

CONS

  • Straps need more padding and tension ability with longer usage periods, but we did not strap this on much so it wasn't a big deal.
  • If not maintaining a large area of lawn overall, this is also a bit much if lawn not much larger than 100 yards in the area.

Solo 418 One-Hand Pressure Sprayer

Solo 418 One-Hand Pressure Sprayer

As you can see, our scaling back of overall lawn yardage, and with our planting projects expanding in kind, this has reflected our product selections. The Solo 418 is a tremendous and convenient time saver and does not take up so much room in our shed like the other sprayers.

PROS

  • The solo brand carries its product features well; as this was utilized to get into even tighter working spaces with our contained flower and veggie beds.
  • Sprays a fine mist and nozzle flex up or down easily.
  • Holds just enough water for use without having to refill it often in reasonable work areas size-wise.

CONS

  • The spray jet was not adjustable for plants farther out and in corners.
  • The valves needed changing out after a month; but after that, the unit worked fine.

TABOR TOOLS Garden Pump Pressure Sprayer

TABOR TOOLS Garden Pump Pressure Sprayer

Our 2 dogs spend up to 2 to 4 a day outdoors in the back yard on sunny days during the milder seasons. Thus, things began to change with what we were going to use on our plants and veggies and how to apply this; as we were also scaling back on some of our pesticide use overall.

We found the Tabor sprayer to be handy in this instance.

PROS

  • Lightweight
  • Easy to use
  • Hardly any leaks.

CONS

  • Erratic pump pressure on occasion.
  • Good for small jobs but keep stowed in a climate controlled space is not exposed to freezing or rapid change of temperatures during the different seasons.

Roundup 190260 Garden Sprayer

Roundup 190260 Garden Sprayer

We have Roundup as a product to this very day in various containers. The sprayer is excellent for stubborn dandelions on the sidewalk and driveway sides and cracks, this sprayer came in handy when we did our major remodeling on the front and east sides of our house when we pulled out old pine bushes and replanted with smaller various plants as well as transplanting older bushes about 2 summers ago.

PROS

  • The 1-gallon size did the job quite well and we have this prepared for major front and side lawn projects when they come around next year as the pump is very reliable and needing change as of yet.
  • Sturdy pressure chamber
  • Nice and safe pressure cover. We thought this was well designed.

CONS

  • This is a summer tool; so like the Tabor, we recommend storing it in a climate-friendly area. It can sometimes run erratically on cooler temperature days.
  • The marking on the container could be improved for it can be hard to read.

Chapin International 20000 Garden Sprayer

Chapin International 20000 Garden Sprayer

Nice size and shape; as we continued to maintain planted flower beds and new asparagus garden and the box gardens with this.

PROS

  • Inexpensive!
  • Easy to Use
  • Sturdy container

CONS

  • The hose and wand are what they are; plastic, and you must take care of the equipment when not in use and have spares ready for availability in case of heavy use in foul weather, for example
  • We felt it needed a stronger locking mechanism on the handle; again if using frequently.

Chapin 61900 Commercial Backpack Sprayer

Chapin 61900 Commercial Backpack Sprayer

(Our most recent purchase as we prepare to once again remodel our vegetable gardens next season after initial work on this during the summer.

We have a huge pine tree removal project lined up next spring and this will ensure new planting in place. The Chapin 61900 certainly comes as advertised for this type of job as any after we did the research.)

PROS

  • It's big enough for any project for a property like ours (1/4 acre) and we dare believe up to 4 or so acres can be maintained and treated with ease. It's pricier, but with good reason, we strongly believe.
  • Has a portable A/C unit on the backpack as you spray.
  • Superb pressure control design on the nozzle (from 20psi to 90).

CONS

  • The handle pump is a little stiffer than other sprayers of this size and this is an issue for those of us getting older; so we're not sure how long we can keep this product after the pine-tree removal and planting project is complete.
  • We strongly suggest storage in a climate-controlled environment during the winter or there is a possibility of fluid buildup from freezing.

Which Garden Sprayer Should You Buy?

Ultimately, we are at a point where we are carefully applying and rationing pesticide usage overall on the property due to our pets (1 cat and 2 dogs).

We are now limiting use on places near the streets and the farthest points of the front lawn. We are always looking into alternative chemical products on treating our plants such as white vinegar mixes, for example, vice herbicides and pesticides.

We also currently tolerate some ants and other insects on occasion unlike before as long as there is no noticeable issue. If so, we still treat area it with a sprayer if necessary.

We considered this lineup the best in our collection, but we recommend taking the time researching the various products available before making your final decision. It is truly worth it and so is your home and garden.
